About the awards:
The Red Cedar is British Columbia’s Young Reader’s Choice book award.
Kids in grades 4-7 read recently published Canadian fiction and non-fiction books, think critically about what they are reading, submit reviews to the Red Cedar Award for online publication, and connect to authors and curriculum. This literacy program runs from September to May with student voting results released in June. The Red Cedar Award short-lists have consistently provided teachers and teacher-librarians with curated lists that are 100% Canadian, support diverse interests and are easily linked to the curriculum.
The Red Cedar website offers online resources, on-line support, and is totally free. This year, we have a partnership with NNELS for accessibility needs.
The Red Cedar Book Award is run by volunteers. For the Award to continue serving students and teachers across BC, we need your support by creating a Red Cedar book club in your school. And what better way to have fun, than connecting kids to great Canadian stories!
