Looking for Session Presenters for the 2018 BCTLA Conference

BCTLA 2018 Conference Session Information Form

The BCTLA is looking for session proposals for our October 19, 2018 conference. The theme of our upcoming conference is Challenge Accepted, and we are focusing on exploring the challenging parts of the teacher-librarian role.

We are looking for teacher-librarians to lead two types of sessions. The first type will be hands-on or concrete sessions with an emphasis on involving participants. A goal of this session should be for participants to leave with something they can use in their library/learning commons right away. These sessions could be:

· hands-on use of robotics, coding, makerspace or other ADST technology

· exploration of websites/databases related to library/learning commons

· sharing of lessons used in the library/learning commons

· specific instruction/tips on the teacher-librarian role – such as collection development, weeding, and event promotion (e.g. DEAR, Freedom to Read), etc.

The second type of session will involve facilitating discussion and action planning around a particularly challenging topic in librarianship. If you are interested in facilitating this type of workshop, we will need the question or questions you are prepared to lead discussions on as well as a very brief description of your expertise in this area.

If you have a session proposal but aren’t sure if it fits into one of the above two categories, please feel free to send us your proposal anyway. We are very interested to hear about anything BC teacher-librarians are studying or doing in their schools.

  • Sessions will be 60 minutes in length.
  • Conference admission and one lunch will be provided to session presenters.
  • In the case of co-presenters, only one conference fee will be covered.
  • Presenters are asked to consider contributing session materials or a link to the materials to enable learning to continue to be shared.
  • Vendor presentations will likely not be accepted.

Please submit your session proposal by April 30th, 2018.
